Classical Composition I: Fable
Suggested Grades:
4th-6th grade
Meeting Info:
Class Duration: 30 minutes
There is no prerequisite for this class. It is the first course in classical composition (progymnasmata). However, students should have a very basic knowledge of English grammar (verbs, nouns, adjectives, etc.) and punctuation.
In Classical Composition I: Fables, the children will learn how to write by learning from ancient fables.
A good deal of the work is done in class but there will be a bit of work to do on the remaining days of the week. We provide videos that the children can watch for the more difficult home lessons.
We spend two weeks on each lesson and at the end of each lesson the children read their final re-writes in class which also helps them become more comfortable with oral presentations and speaking.
Note: We will not be able to offer final draft grading in the ’25-’26 year. Instead, we will offer a walk-through on how to grade your child’s paper. Additionally, the teacher does offer to grade one final draft (for a particular lesson. Details will be in lesson plans)
