Classical Composition Final Draft Examples

It can be difficult to get an idea of what your child’s final draft should look like or what the average final draft might look like when you homeschool your child.

As a homeschool parent myself, I’ve benefited from the generosity of other homeschool parents who let me look at their children’s final drafts and I want to pass along similar resources for you.

Below are actual final draft examples from either my own children or students that I’ve had in my Virtualis Scholé classes.

Things to Note:
The student’s grade is included (because there is indeed a difference between a 4th grader writing a Fable draft and a 7th grader!)

The lesson number is included (because there is also a difference between lesson 1 and lesson 18!)

Figures of description/Figures of speech are underlined (this is what is required in my classes – some levels also label them)

Examples are unedited/corrected (so that you can see what types of spelling/punctuation mistakes or errors a typical student might make – although keep in mind that these are final drafts that are turned in to me; some of my parents let the student do all the work and turn it into me without helping them edit first, and other parents like to give the papers a look over and have their child correct what they notice before turning them in to me as final drafts…and those who type their papers often get the benefit of autocorrect.)

And for what it’s worth, I will be converting handwritten papers into typed (for ease of reading) but if they were turned in as handwritten I will use a handwriting type font. I personally, do not require papers to be typed until Classical Composition III: Chreia/Maxim.
